Chapter 37

Effortless Harmony

The Tao acts without effort, yet brings all things into harmony. When leaders embody its simplicity and let go of desire, transformation unfolds naturally and the world returns to balance.

Effortless Harmony

The Tao does nothing,
yet nothing is left undone.

If rulers could embody it,
everything would transform
of its own accord.

If transformation became a desire,
it should be rooted
in nameless simplicity.

Simplicity without name
has no ambition.
Free of desire,
at rest,
everything moves as it should.
